Buzzy G. and Cas B., along with Out From Under Program Director Erik Harlow, have helped dozens of men transition from a chaotic existence of alcoholism/addiction to a life of freedom and purpose. Through well grounded, consistent mentorship and the 12 steps, residents will experience long term success with a sober and meaningful life.

Resident Privilege System

Out From Under Sober Living Program implements a strict and intense system of phases for resident privileges. Each resident will incrementally graduate through each phase as they navigate their newly sober lifestyles. All residents entering the program will begin in Phase I (1) and are required to attent ninety (90) meetings in ninety (90) days. With each new milestone achievement, residents will earn greater new privileges and take on greater responsibilities.

Phase I

  • No passes are authorized for Phase 1 residents.
  • Driving is prohibited for Phase 1 residents. Keys to personal vehicles must be turned over to Out From Under staff upon first entry into the facility. Phase 1 residents will rely solely upon staff and/or other residents with driving privileges to travel.
  • Phase 1 residents are required to establish a 12-step home group, maintain daily contact with a sponsor, and be compliant with all house rules, policies, and expectations.

Phase II

  • By way of staff approval only Phase II residents are eligible for two (2) 48-hour passes per month.
  • Driving is authorized only when approved by staff and when accompanied by a member of Out From Under staff or another resident. Phase II residents may never drive or travel unaccompanied.
  • Phase II residents are required to remain engaged in 12-step home group, maintain daily contact with a sponsor, and be compliant with all house rules, policies, and expectations.

Phase III

  • By way of staff approval only, Phase II residents are eligible for three (3) 48-hour passes per month.
  • Driving alone is authorized, with staff approvial only.
  • Phase III residents will help mentor Phase I and Phase II residents.
  • Phase III residents are required to remain actively engaged in 12-step home group, maintain daily contact with a sponsor, and be compliant with all house rules, policies, and expectations.

House Rules

  1. All resident are required to take random drug screenings and breathlyzer tests at the staff’s discretion. A postive test will result in disciplinary action and/or dismissal from the program.
  2. A $450.00 fee is due upon entry and $185 due each week of residency. Any variation from this agreement is to be discussed with staff in advance.
  3. Energy drinks, vitamin/workout supplements, and synthetics drugs (i.e. Sprice, Bath Salts, Tianaa/Tianeptine, Sleepwalkers, Kratom, etc.) are strictly prohibited. Failure to comply with this policy will result in disciplinary action and/or dismissal from the program.
  4. All Clients are required to attend ninety (90) meetings in ninety (90) days. After 90 days, clients are required to attend a minimum of 5 meetings per week.
  5. There is one MANDATORY in-house meetings per week. All clients must be present and on time: 7:00pm on Tuesdays.
  6.  Relationships are not allowed. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action.
  7. Out From Under has a strict zero tolerance policy for violence. This includes any and all threats of violence. Violation of this policy will result in immediate dismissal of the program and facilities. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE.
  8. Residents are expected to abide by all clinical recommendations set by the referring treatment center and/or counseler. (i.e. IOP, Individual Therapy, Continuing Care, Phychiatrist, etc.)
  9. Residents are required to find employment within the first 30 days of entry into the program. If disabled and unable to work, residents must volunteer for a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours per week.
  10. With written consent from the resident, Out From Under Staff will communicate and/or advocate on the client’s behalf. (i.e. Probation Officers, DHR Social Workers, Employer/EAP Case Managers, etc.)
  11. Residents will be responsible for their own food and groceries. Staff will assist residents with applications for Food Stamps/EBT if necessary.
  12. Negative contracts between residents will not be tolerated. If you see something, say something. If a resident is discovered to be involved in a negative contract regarding any Out From Under rules, policies, or guidelines, disciplinary action will be taken.

What to Bring

  1. Twin-size bedding. (Fitted Sheet, Flat Sheet, Pillows, Comforter/Blanket)
  2. Food/Groceries
  3. Medications – Staff will check all medications upon admission. Narcotics or mood/mind altering medications are NOT allowed.
  4. Electronics – Cell phones, Latptops, iPod/MP3 Players
  5. Clothing – No clothing with depictions of drugs or alcohol will be allowed.
  6. Personal Hygiene Products – Items containing alcohol (i.e. mouthwash, hairspray, hand sanitizer, etc.) are NOT allowed.
  7. Notebook and Writing Utensils – We strongly recommend bringing something you can use to begin journaling and step work.
  8. Laundry detergent or washing powder.
